dear all,
what would you say:

for our guestbook, we wondered if it would be more comfortable bzw. less scary for the guests, if it was ‘just’ a book with a pen – no virtual space, no labtop.
Would the people rather use a pen and write on paper, because a book seems to be a ‘safer place’ where the letters stay where they had been put? Could this computer-thing be more inhibitating in terms of being watched or not knowing where the own statements go / will be published?

Pleazzzzzzzzzzz send me your opinion!

you could re frame the question for example:
what would be in the interests of the “future”?
does the maker of the guest book have responsibility, if so, what is it? (distribution and responsibility)
technology for identity in the data fields, what significant changes have happened in the last 1 or 2 years?
the worlds of the “named” against the “un named”- is there a border culture here somewhere? is there a third place?

Iā€™d prefer book and pen here.

your virtual lady thinks: yes, a book is better šŸ™‚ i always like guestbooks because a simple white sheet of paper is such an open space for me when i’m wandering through exhibitions and my mind is overloaded with stuff…but i also liked the idea of a blog…guess its too much to do both…if i would have to make a
decision i would choose an oldschool book šŸ™‚

just a personal preference: i would write into a 3D book, but never write voluntarily in blogs/wikis etc.
and on-site i would write, afterwards i would not so probably write.

hm…what about giving people the open space of a guestbook in form of just paper and then scan it, transfer it and present it as a digital blog/website?

Idea of “open space” is really interesting and provocative given the nazis were very much into strict info gathering, getting identity info, keeping it, then making judgments and actions based on it. The idea of choice regarding self representation- an ongoing and important place to posit questions

  7. I like the idea of a guestbook – in my opinion, we need also some kind of “transmission” – maybe it is possible to track the writings with a webcam and transmit it to the world, and have a blog – so we can confront the blog with the bookwritings – due to the transmission we create a connection beetween the virtual space and the i:i space.
